Who is it for?
Our Gentle Oil features a dreamily lightweight ingredient that’s suitable for most skin types -- beetroot squalane! This non-comedogenic, non-sensitising oil doesn’t clog pores and helps to regulate sebum production. Those with oily to combination or sensitive skin types will especially benefit from this silky smooth blend. The Gentle Oil is also a safe choice if you're prone to acne in any form. Yes, that includes those with fungal acne, as squalane is one of the few known oils that doesn’t exacerbate fungal growth. The addition of Gromwell extract lends its natural healing properties to soothe signs of irritation, while also improving the skin’s healing process.
If you’re brand new to face oils and don’t know how to ease yourself in, our Gentle Oil is a great place to start! No heaviness here, in fact, you’ll enjoy long lasting hydration that feels impossibly weightless on your skin.
Our squalane is derived from beetroot, which is a more sustainable source compared to others. (Image: Green Vegetable Seeds)
To explain squalane (with an a) a little better, let’s have a mini science lesson. Your skin’s natural sebum contains a helpful ingredient called squalene (with an e). This is an oil your body produces which is responsible for keeping your skin smooth and supple, and we produce less of it as we age. Squalane is a much more stable form of squalene with a longer shelf life. This makes it a powerhouse skincare ingredient that gently replenishes our skin’s moisture levels. An added bonus is that squalane can keep sebum from hardening and clogging your pores, making it extremely beneficial for congested skin.
But why beetroot squalane? Well, compared to other varieties, it is by far the best choice for the Earth and your skin. When Squalane was first discovered, it was originally derived from shark livers. Later on, a more cruelty-free approach was used by extracting squalane from olives. Unfortunately, the taxing manufacturing methods used to produce olive squalane has a significantly negative impact on the environment.
That’s where beetroot squalane comes in, with not only a smaller carbon footprint, but a higher purity profile that makes it safer for those with sensitive skin and fungal acne.

Gromwell Extract (Lithospermum erythrorhizon)
You might first notice Gromwell extract in the blushing hue of our Gentle Oil. This naturally purple root adds an enchanting shade of pastel pink to the otherwise clear colored squalane. Its beauty is more than skin deep, however, Gromwell has long been used in traditional Chinese medicine for its antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties. In recent years it has also been found to contain skin-healing agents called Shikonins, which can powerfully treat damaged or irritated areas of the skin.
How do I use it?
After cleansing and toning, apply 3-5 drops of the Gentle Oil either directly onto the face or by warming it up in your palms. On slightly damp skin, pat the oil onto the facial area until it’s evenly distributed, and gently massage until it’s fully absorbed into your skin. You can also use our Face Roller or Gua Sha to enjoy added massage benefits and better product absorption.
Oil based serums can be used after applying the Gentle Oil, while water-based serums should be applied beforehand after toning. For AM usage, apply your sunscreen at the very end of your skincare routine.
