What is Project True Skin?
Project True Skin is an awareness campaign initiated by Root Remedies. It is a call for self-acceptance to accept and appreciate all skin colours and types. It is about aligning concepts of beauty and desirability to what is natural, true, and attainable and to normalise the conversations around any and all skin-related issues that an individual might face.
Project True Skin will cover different skin-related topics, possibly including but not limited to: skin colour, stretch marks, scars, acne, and many more. The main goal of Project True Skin is to encourage individuals to share their stories and experiences. By doing so, we hope to normalise the conversations around skin, in particular in regards to what are commonly perceived as flaws. The strive for perfection and need to appear flawless has been exacerbated by the rise of social media, and we believe that it is all the more important now to remind individuals that they are beautiful, just the way they are.
Story Of My Shade
Story of My Shade is the first topic under #ProjectTrueSkin. An individual’s skin colour very much affects how one is treated and viewed in today’s Malaysia. As in many other countries around the world, Malaysia still associates having fair skin to being beautiful and successful. #StoryOfMyShade will uncover the different journeys of struggle and self-acceptance behind many different skin shades.
#StoryOfMyShade is a campaign that aims to encourage women and men to share any stories they might have regarding how their skin colour affected their perceptions of desirability, self-esteem, and personal life, whether positive or negative. It is about celebrating all skin colours because beauty goes beyond the colour of your skin.
Participate by sharing a story of your own about your skin colour, please do share with the hashtags #StoryOfMyShade and #ProjectTrueSkin on Instagram or Twitter. Your stories will inspire others and help others to find courage, acceptance and love with their our skin and body. You can read about Kamila's story here, with more stories from our team members to come!
If you share before 10 December 2019, we'll send you a discount code as a thank you for supporting the campaign!
