WHAT IS MINDFUL SKINCARE?
mindfulness.
/ˈmʌɪn(d)f(ʊ)lnəs/
noun
- the quality or state of being conscious or aware of something.
- a mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations.
Mindful Skincare is a simple but powerful concept. It is about being aware of the condition of your skin and how it feels - listening to it, respecting it, and cherishing it. It is about being completely honest about what works and what doesn’t.
It is about using both your conscious mind and intuition to develop a Skincare Practice.
It’s not about finding the next magical product, but about understanding how a product works and more importantly, how it affects you before you add it to your Skincare Practice.
It’s not simply about finding good, effective products, but about finding effective products for you, as no one else in the world has your exact lifestyle, history, and genes.
It is about being aware of your body and health condition, and understanding how it affects your skin.
It is about understanding that the health of your skin is ultimately about overall health, both mentally and physically.
It is about thinking about skin care holistically, about finding the connection and balance between products, lifestyle, diet that works for you. Your Skincare Practice isn’t simply about products, routine, and order, but also about other factors in your life and affect your skin.
Your skin is the largest organ in your body, it is the biggest and one of the most important sensory organs, it is one of the primary ways we interact and perceive the world around us.
So however you feel about your skin, positive or negative, don’t ignore it, listen to it, accept it. Feel it, experience it, let the sensations flow through it. Perceive it and understand these sensations with a patient, logical, and open mind. It will tell you what it needs, if you just listen.
Mindful Skincare is about realizing the above, that your skin isn’t a problem to be fixed, but a part of you to be cherished and cared for, to be listened to and experienced.
We will be sharing practical tips and advice on how to start practicing Mindful Skincare and how to develop a Skincare Practice on your own soon. Stay tuned!
