Are Root Remedies products really natural?
Yes! We only use high quality natural ingredients. The following are some ingredients that we use:
- Locally farmed beeswax
- Dried herbs and spices
- Natural oils
Unrefined cocoa butter
Are your products Vegan?
Our products are mostly plant-based, but some products do contain beeswax, so we cannot be considered Vegan. However, we do not test on animals and are against cruelty to animals of any kind.
Where do you source your materials from?
We source most of our materials locally from Malaysia. We believe there is a treasure trove of undiscovered potential ingredients in our beautiful tropical country. We are always searching for interesting ingredients grown locally or related to local culture to craft products from.
What are infused oils?
At Root Remedies, we like to extract our scents, properties and colours from the raw ingredients themselves. One of our favourite methods is the oil infusion method. Simply put, this involves placing dried plant materials into oils with some heat for a period of time. After a while, the compounds in the dried plants seep into the oil, infusing the oil with the compounds in the plant materials.
This is a costly and laborious process, however, we do it because it enables us to craft beautiful, effective, subtle and truly natural products.
Would natural oils make my skin more oily? Are natural oils good for the skin?
Applying natural oils on the skin helps to regulate oil/sebum production. Oily skin is usually caused by the skin over-producing oils, this could be due to a few factors:
- Cleansing the skin too harshly or too frequently. This causes the skin to freak out and produce oil to form a protective layer.
- Having thick makeup on for long periods of time.
By applying natural oils, you are providing a natural, protective layer that soothes the skin, while simultaneously providing it with naturally occurring nutrients and antioxidants that it can use to heal and rejuvenate itself.
When is the best time to apply Root Remedies oils? Can I wear makeup after applying oil?
Oil absorbs quicker on damp skin, so applying oils after cleansing the face is ideal. If you would like to wear makeup, wait 3 to 5 minutes so that the oil absorbs into the skin, then apply makeup as usual.
Do you have a recommended skincare routine? What order should I apply the products in?
Start by cleansing your face with one of our soaps. If you have makeup on, you can use our coconut oil to remove it before that. After that, while your face is still slightly damp, apply one of our oils or lotions. Wait for 3 to 5 minutes if you would like to apply makeup after. If you are using sun protection, use after applying the oil or moisturiser and before makeup.
Aside from that, it is also recommended that you exfoliate with one of our skin scrubs once a week for smooth and clear skin!
Does natural skincare take a longer time to be effective?
The average person is exposed to up to 130 different chemicals every day from the skin care products we use. Not all of these chemicals are beneficial to the skin, in fact, many of these chemicals irritate the skin, impeding it’s natural ability to heal itself.
All skin care products, natural or not, depends on the skin’s ability to heal itself. By using natural products, you ensure that your skin is not exposed to harmful synthetic chemicals. Not only that, you are providing naturally-occurring nutrients to the skin, ensuring that it has the building blocks it needs to recover and heal from the harshness of the elements.
What is the shelf life of Root Remedies products?
Root Remedies products are made from all natural ingredients, therefore, they do have a shelf life of 12-18 months. We do not use any preservatives in our products. Because none of our products contain water (they are oil-based), they can last for some time without preservatives. Our products will last longer if kept at room temperature and out of direct sunlight.
